At a time when health is increasingly recognised as a legitimate area for artistic inquiry, my own explorations centre around the flawed presumption of health as the norm and the personal narratives we construct to enable us to navigate experiences of trauma and illness. These ideas manifest in my practice as a deep concern with the quality and character of the materials I use to create ‘feeling scapes’ of the body: textures that evoke a sense of the body, together with ideas of what it is to be human.
Exploring areas around painting and sculpture, assemblages form the core of my practice. Created using a palette of hand-dyed textiles and distemper-impregnated canvas, wax, wire, plaster, and LED lighting, the aim of these works is to engender ideas through sensation and to prompt consideration of what it is like to live in a vulnerable body, transient, in a precarious world.

Damaged Bodies This new series of works reference wax anatomical models, oozing bodily fluids and hint at what might lie beneath our flesh. They present an abstract idea of the body and prompt us to consider its mutability.

Enfleshing Ghost Series is a derivation from the Enfleshing I-VI. It begun with a drawing made on site of the shadows cast by Enfleshing I-VI when exhibited at Copeland Gallery, Peckham in November 2021. The two works Sometimes and Eventually you will win are three dimensional representations of the shadows.

Enfleshing I-VI is a series of works made for Rules of Six the inaugural exhibition of Six Artists. Rules of Six appropriated a regulation designed to limit social contact as a framework for a collective, creative effort – albeit one carried out at a distance. Six artists, six works each, one shared (virtual) space.

A series of four works, investigating our shifting relationship with our bodies. These works are brought together into sculptural forms using ‘free sewing’ where strips of textile, string and latex are incorporated into the stitched line as it is being made. The visceral qualities of each are activated with light.

Knotted Form explores how the relative textures and weights of plaster and stuffed fabric can be exploited to create corporeal form. The weight is made more apparent by the long hanging ribbons and a notion of the internal body is exacerbated by the subtle pink tones of the fabrics, hand-dyed with natural pigments.
